Buhach Colony girls, Atwater boys take control at CCC Center Meet No. 2.

Buhach Colony High hosted its first-ever track meet on Wednesday with the Central California Conference second center meet of the season. It was a strong day for the Buhach Colony girls and Atwater boys and they both won their second center meet of the year. The Atwater boys will take a two-point lead heading in the third center meet and the Thunder girls will have a three-point edge.
Leading the way for BC was sophomore Emily Gallegos, who won the 200-meter dash in 24.95 seconds and also picked up a victory in the 300 hurdles (44.63). Gallegos also finished second in the 100 hurdles and teamed up with Chisa Wood, Taylor Martin and Alicia Silvas to win the 4x100 relay in a time of 48.33 seconds. Thunder teammate Lena Llamas also picked up two individual wins with the top times in the 800 (2:25.57) and the 1600 (5:16.27).
Golden Valley senior Zoe Gonzales also won two events, picking up victories in the 100 hurdles (24.95) and the 400 (59.70). El Capitan High senior Jordynn Middleton was also a double-winner with top marks in the high jump (4 feet, 10 inches) and the triple jump (34-8.5).

Buhach Colony’s Carter Chapman won two events on the boys side with victories in the 100 (11.06) and the 200 (22.35). Golden Valley’s Dominic Urteaga swept the 1600 (4:29.26) and the 3200 (10:09.63). El Capitan High senior A.J. Jones set a school record in winning the high jump with a leap of 6-6.
Other MUHSD athletes picking up wins in the girls meet included: Silvas in the 100 (12.67), Merced’s Ellie Hampton in the 3200 (11:17.33), Buhach Colony’s McKenna Hill in the shot put (32-7.5), Atwater’s Juliana Prado in the discus (117-11) and Sydney Machado in the pole vault (8-6) and Merced’s Ryann Perez in the long jump (16-4.25).
The boys winners were Golden Valley’s Jhonathan Romero in the 400 (52.46), El Capitan’s Jerry Madrigal in the 800 (2:00.29), Atwater hurdles Easton Hart in the 110 (16.36) and Isaiah Almeda in the 300 (43.42), Atwater’s Eliseus Franklin in the shot put (41-5) and El Capitan’s Rodolfo Rosel in the discus (119-10), Atwater’s Gary Hagler in the pole vault (11-10), El Capitan’s Evan Jenkins in the long jump (20-5) and Golden Valley’s Quincy Brown in the triple jump (44-7.5).
Many of the MUHSD teams will be back in action on Saturday at the first-ever Black and Blue Hammar Invitational at Buhach Colony.
