Guidelines for Responsible AI Use

Use AI and Technology the Right Way

Ai is a tool  to support work and learning-not replace thinking. Responsible digital use requires purpose, balance, and reflection. Pause. Verify. Decide.

Purpose: Use AI with clear intent to support meaningful goals.

Balance: Balance efficiency with accuracy, fairness, and critical thinking.

Human: Think critically. People make decisions and own final solutions.

Compliance: Protect data (PII) and systems. Follow board policy. Prioritize student and staff safety.

Skills: Build skills with AI-without bypassing learning.

Evaluation: Revisit and refine AI use as tools and understanding change.

Technology and AI are tools that can help you learn—but they don’t do the thinking for you.

When you use AI or digital tools, remember to:

  • Use them with purpose to support your learning and goals
  • Think critically and check that information is accurate and fair
  • Make your own decisions and take responsibility for your work
  • Protect personal identifiable information (PII)—yours and others’
  • Build skills, not shortcuts
  • Reflect and adjust as tools and expectations change

Using technology responsibly helps you become a strong digital citizen-someone who learns, thinks, and uses technology safely and ethically now and in the future.

Guidelines for Families on Responsible Use of Generative AI

Model and Encourage Critical Engagement with AI:

  • Be a role model in the responsible use of AI technologies. Show your children how to critically evaluate AI-generated information and discuss the importance of verifying facts.
  • Encourage curiosity and skepticism: Discuss with your children how AI works, its potential biases, and limitations, fostering an environment where questioning and critical thinking are valued.

Facilitate Open and Regular Conversations About Ethical AI Use:

  • Initiate discussions about the ethical use of AI in schoolwork, including the importance of academic integrity and the potential consequences of misuse.
  • Share experiences: Encourage your children to talk about how they and their peers use AI, and discuss real-life examples of ethical versus unethical AI use.

Promote Continuous Learning and Adaptation:

  • Stay informed about the latest developments in AI and its implications for education and society. Use this knowledge to guide your children in understanding the evolving digital world.
  • Participate in learning opportunities: Attend school or community workshops on digital literacy and AI technology, and encourage your children to join you in these learning experiences.
