MUHSD Roundup: Water polo regular season winding down, MUHSD girls golfers shine.

The El Capitan High girls water polo jumped out to a 10-0 lead as the Gauchos cruised to a 23-2 victory over Atwater at the Roddy Svendsen Aquatic Center on Monday night. Peyton Adrian led the way for El Capitan (20-6 overall, 8-1 Central California Conference) with five goals, two assists and four steals.
Brooklyn Ramsey added five goals, two assists and two steals and goalie Grace Phillips added four goals, three assists and three saves for El Capitan. Alex Martinez also scored four goals as eight different Gauchos players scored.
El Capitan will wrap up the regular season on Wednesday with a CCC showdown against Merced. The Gauchos can claim a share of the conference title if they can upset the Bears.
Boys Water Polo
El Capitan 11, Atwater 4 – Joseph Rodriguez scored four goals and assisted on two others to lead the Gauchos (18-8, 8-1 CCC). Colby Schanze added three goals and two steals and Matthew Brown, Luke Parker, Noah Ruiz, and Liam Sanchez all added goals for El Capitan.
Gauchos goalie Jack Nutcher finished with 16 saves. El Capitan will host Merced on Wednesday with an opportunity to tie the Bears for the CCC championship with a win.
Merced 16, Golden Valley 1 – The Bears won their 20th consecutive game as 10 Merced players scored goals against the Cougars. Nathan Larson, Cord McCall, Reid McCall, Eli Hamm, Hunter Gossett and Soso Dickson all scored two goals each with Reid McCall dishing out seven assists. Hamm and Eli Morrison both recorded six saves for the Bears, who improved to 25-2 overall and 9-0 in the CCC, clinching at least a share of the conference championship with the win.

Girls Golf
El Capitan High seniors Esther Sheu and Mady Dietz both qualified for the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Championship. Sheu shot a 76 and Dietz finished with an 84 at the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III Championship at the River Oaks Golf Course in Nicolaus on Monday. They will be joined by Livingston High’s Briana Sobervilla, who turned in the fourth lowest individual score at the Division IV Championship with a 93 at Micke Grove Golf Course in Lodi.
El Capitan finished fourth as a team with 464 team points. Buhach Colony finished with 496 points.
Payton Zeller shot a 93 for El Capitan. Alana Hamilton shot a 94 to lead the Thunder with Amanda Englert recording a 97. Other top scores from CCC golfers included Merced’s Abigail Rosa’s 94 and Atwater’s Paisley Garcia shooting a 97.
Livingston finished fourth as a team in Lodi with a team score of 599. Joyce Brando shot a 108 and Elena Vasquez finished with a 115 for the Wolves. Sobervilla becomes just the fifth Livingston golfer to advance to the Masters Championship.
Sheu, Dietz and Sobervilla will play in the SJS Masters Championship at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton on Monday at 9 a.m.
