Bus Safety Rules and Tips
- Students are to arrive at the bus stop at least ten minutes before the bus’s arrival time.
- Students are to wait on the side of the street in which the bus will stop.
- Do not disturb the area at your bus stop: It may be someone else’s property.
- Student I.D. cards are required at all times upon entering the bus.
- When the bus arrives, please do not approach the bus until the doors are opened and the red lights are flashing.
- Always find your seat quickly, wear seatbelts and stay seated. The Bus Driver may assign seats.
- When the bus is stopped at a Railroad Crossing, you must stop talking.
- Never throw things while on the bus and please do not leave trash on the bus.
- Listen to your Driver and obey the Driver the 1st time.
- Remain seated at all times, talk quietly and keep all body parts inside the bus.
- No rudeness, teasing, or obscene gestures.
- No eating, drinking or chewing gum on the bus.
- You may only get off at your own bus stop. If it is necessary to get off at another bus stop, the parent or guardian must write a note and submit to the Office. (Once student leaves campus, they will not be allowed to ride bus).
- Whenever getting off the bus, move away from the bus’ danger zone (12 feet).
- If you must cross in front of the bus, make sure the driver can see you. Wait for the driver's signal to cross. Look both ways. Cross the street carefully. Do not run.
Transportation will not be provided for pupils residing within 2.5 miles from their neighborhood school or bus stop (some exceptions apply).
Students with special needs must be referred to the Special Services Department by the appropriate school personnel. Contact your child’s school should your child need any special services.

Plan A
One hour delay, foggy day school bus schedule. The majority of spotters indicate visibility due to fog is reduced below 200 feet, by 5:45 AM.
Plan B
A second hour delay is now in effect. At 6:15 AM spotters are sent out to the following areas: McSwain, El Nido, Highway 140 toward Gustine, North Merced- Hopeton/Snelling, Cressy/Ballico. Conditions have not cleared so that visibility exceeds 200 feet.
Plan C
A third hour delay is now in effect. At 7:15 AM spotters indicate that visibility in the areas above still has not cleared so that visibility exceeds 200 feet.
It is not expected that the District will go beyond Plan C and cancel morning bus service entirely as visibility due to fog almost always improves beyond 200 feet by 8:45 AM.
