Merced dominates to extend Mayor’s Cup streak to 20 games against Golden Valley.
The Merced High football team extended their winning streak against Golden Valley to 20 consecutive games with an emphatic 51-6 victory in the Battle for the Mayor’s Cup on Friday night at Cathie Hostetler Stadium.
The Bears improved to 6-0 overall and 1-0 in the CCC as they jumped out to a 51-0 lead, which led to a running clock in the second half. Camarri Jackson delivered another big night on the ground with multiple touchdowns after scoring four touchdowns against Enoch in the previous game.
Dougie Andrews added two touchdown runs and Anthony Tachiera added a touchdown run. The Merced defense held Golden Valley (0-6, 0-1 CCC) scoreless until a late touchdown. Merced now leads the all-time series 23-8 against Golden Valley.
Los Banos 42, El Capitan 21 – The Gauchos couldn’t rebound from a slow start as the Tigers jumped out to a 21-0 lead midway through the third quarter. Los Banos improves to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the CCC. El Capitan drops to 3-3 and 0-1 in the CCC.
The Gauchos offense finally got going in the second half as quarterback Gio Mendoza ran in a touchdown and running back Lorenzo Peters broke free for a 65-yard touchdown run. El Capitan will travel to Atwater next week. Los Banos will host Merced in a battle of 1-0 CCC teams.
Grace Davis 24, Livingston 13 – The Wolves battled back from a 12-0 deficit to take a 13-12 lead after a Roberto Rivera touchdown run with 8:01 left in the fourth quarter. However, the Spartans answered with two late touchdowns to hand Livingston its first Western Athletic Conference loss. Livingston falls to 2-4 overall and 2-1 in the WAC. The Wolves will travel to Central Valley next week.
