Guide to New Courses and Curriculum Council
Idea for a New Course:
Speak with your administration about your new course Idea. Discuss how it will fit in the department and schedule. This should be done 1 to 6 months before Curriculum Council in the Fall.
Contact Ed Services for Forms:
Contact stacey Cool in Ed Services. You will be asked to fill out a Curriculum Council Document detailing unit descriptions, key assignments, standards alignment, and predicted costs associated with the course. Your principal needs to sign this form. Forms must be completed by mid-September.
Curriculum Council:
You and an administratior will be asked to present the course at Curriculum Council in October.
Courses are Approved or Denied:
About a week after Curriculum Council decisions about courses are released.
Registration:
If approved, the course can be placed on registration forms for next school year. Begin recruiting students.
Teach the Course:
If there are enough students signed up for the class, it may be placed in the master schedule.
It takes 12 to 18 months to start a new course. The key to success is starting early.
